ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Design mechanical parts, assemblies, systems and fixtures as part of development of new products and support of existing products. Prepare 3D CAD models and detailed dimensioned drawings of parts and assemblies utilizing CAD tools.
- Optimize designs for production using DFA/DFM principles and Concurrent Engineering.
- Create models for documentation of designs for use in production processes for new or existing products.
- Perform mechanical stress analysis using finite element analysis (FEA) and hand calculations of part and assembly designs.
- Develop and implements test plans for mechanical assemblies and procedures, fixtures and tools for incoming inspection of custom machined parts and production assembly of mechanical systems. Evaluate and document test results.
- Fabricate, assemble and test prototypes to verify performance to design criteria.
- Consistently develop unique and innovative approaches in the solution of critical problems and broad design issues, impacting the product success and addressing future products and technologies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- BSME with 7yr experience, or MSME with 4 yr experience
- Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering theory required
- SolidWorks, Pro/E, or other solid modeling software proficiency
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Proficiency with Drawing generation, per ASME/ISO Standards
- Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancin
- Experience with configuration management, at minimum from the engineering input perspective (rev control, drawing tree structuring, affectivity, backward compatibility, etc
- Experience in precision machine design including bearings, plastics, experience working with exotic materials
- Experience with DFM/DFA Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly
- Experience designing mechanisms
- Experience performing static stress and loading analyses
- Experience performing kinematic analyses
- Experience performing dynamic stress and loading analyses is a plus
- Experience with Tolerance Stackup Analysis
- Experience with FEA is preferred
- Experience in thermal analysis required
- Experience in Metrology and uncertainty analysis preferred
- Project Management experience prefer
- Demonstrated ability to interact with all aspects of projects from shop-floor manufacturing issues to conceptual designs
