ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Design mechanical parts, assemblies, systems and fixtures as part of development of new products and support of existing products. Prepare 3D CAD models and detailed dimensioned drawings of parts and assemblies utilizing CAD tools.
- Optimize designs for production using DFA/DFM principles and Concurrent Engineering.
- Create models for documentation of designs for use in production processes for new or existing products.
- Perform mechanical finite element analysis (FEA) of part and assembly designs.
- Develop and implements test plans for mechanical assemblies and procedures, fixtures and tools for incoming inspection of custom machined parts and production assembly of mechanical systems. Evaluate and document test results.
- Fabricate, assemble and test prototypes to verify performance to design criteria.
- Consistently develop unique and innovative approaches in the solution of critical problems and broad design issues, impacting the product success and addressing future products and technologies.
HIRING PREFERENCES:
- BSME with 10 yrs experience, or MSME with 7 yr experience required
- SolidWorks, Pro/E, or other solid modeling software expertise required (SolidWorks preferred) Complex assemblies
- Drawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience with configuration management, at minimum from the engineering input perspective (rev control, drawing tree structuring, effectivity, backward compatibility, etc)
- Experience designing mechanisms
- Experience in design of precision machined, die cast, and plastic injection molded parts
- Experience in FEA and CFD including structural, modal, and thermal analysis
- Experience in electronics packaging
- Designing for thermal management
- Designing for EMI/RFI mitigation
- Connector and other electromechanical part selection experience is a plus
- Cabling design is a plus
- Experience with DFM/DFA
- Experience in handheld devices is a plus
- Experience with sheet metal, weldments, and precision bearings is a plusExperience with LabVIEW is a plus
